A Tribute to Frida

Last week Diamari and I packed our bags ( in a flurry of pre-birthday spontaneity ) and headed to Brooklyn to meet up our friend Katherine Turner from Viva Vint. Kat’s boyfriends band, Toubab Krewe was touring there so the weekend promised to be full of music and thrift shopping (which it so awesomely was). We spent Cinco de Mayo in Williamsburg and Kat had planned a Frida Kahlo tribute hairstyle to rock that night. She used real flowers in her gorgeous blonde crown braid. I loved it so much I had to take some shots at the hotel before heading out to the Brooklyn Bowl for the festivities.

If you are a hair rookie like myself, check out this step by step dummy proof guide for easy braids styled by my go to hair guru & stylist Audra Billingsley from Sean Donaldson Salon.

Style Geek | Walking in Red

Lately I’ve been on a colored pants binge. Red, green, teal…pretty much anything but blue. I am lusting after a pair of pink distressed denims. Colored pants worn with a simple black or white top has been a staple for me this spring. Also check out these kick-ass Ash boots I scored at the Neiman Marcus shoe sale. I love pairing them with really girly outfits.

I received this School of Visual Arts course catalog in the mail. Isn’t it a beautiful cover? I am particularly fond of the letter K ;) !

Makeup Trends | Tangerine Tango

By now you already know that tangerine is the color of the year…. Tangerine Tango that is. Dream team Sephora and Pantone Universe got together and said “Hey, we’re both really awesome, let’s have babies!”  and so the Sephora + Pantone Universe Beauty Collection was born… and beautiful it is indeed. I feel like it must be every graphic designer/makeup artists dream. Everything from the packaging, to the art direction of the photo shoot is spot on. The product photography, in-store graphics, pop-up shops and did I mention the packaging? Pure awesome. And just in case you’re wondering, no Sephora is not sponsoring this message however, if they would like to send me some free product, I wouldn’t be upset about it (ahhem).

Check out this video, 20 Ways To Wear Tangerine Tango,  for inspiration on how to use tangerine tango on your face.  To learn more about the Sephora + Pantone Universe partnership watch this video.

There are several exciting events coming up in Miami. Event’s that any one from fashionistas to yogis can appreciate!

  • If you are a fashion enthusiast, like myself, and enjoy a dose of  fashion blog-reading with a cup of tea in the morning you should head out to Fashion Bloggers Night Out at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables this Wednesday night. Fully equipped with drinks, snacks, a runway show, and panel of talented local bloggers, it promises to be a good time. The blog panel includes Annie Vazquez (The Fashion Poet), Ginger Harris (Electric Blogarella), Jenny Lopez (LopezJennyLopez), Karla Garcia (KarGarOhhSnap), and Maria Tettamanti (The Wordy Girl). I’m in.

  • Cocktails and creatives make a good mix. Perhaps that’s why AIGA Miami is hosting their Textile Design event Thursday evening at The Stage. Diamari and I will be there mixing and mingling.

“Unearth how apparel can be translated into marketing and advertising communications in creative ways. Discover how unique fine art/illustration patterns and creative solutions can be applied to fashion apparel and can be used to promote hope and inspiration. -AIGA MIA

Get Posey

  • House Theater of Chicago and Adrienne Arsht Center brings to stage Death and Harry Houdini. This show based on Houdini’s life features his most dangerous escape- the Water Torture Cell- being replayed by Dannis Watkins, an award winning magician. Being a lover of all things dark and magical, this is a performance I don’t want to miss. Oh, and I am loving the beautifully designed collateral for the show.

“A highly polished and visually thrilling show, strikingly well-designed and well-executed. MAGIC OF THE VERY HIGHEST ORDER!” Chicago Tribune
